Scarlets Supporters Trust Open Meeting
On 28th September we held an open meeting for the supporters in the Tetley’s Suite at Stradey Park.
The Open meeting was an important milestone in the setting up of the Trust. We were looking to inform people about the benefits of Supporters Trusts and gain a mandate
from the Supporters of the Scarlets to move forward and launch the Trust.
Along with the original set-up (working) group, We had two guest speakers with us that evening. The first was from Supporters Direct and the second from Call To Arms.
Supporters Direct is a government initiative funded by public money who aim to assist in the setting up of supporter’s trusts as Industrial and Provident societies. They
offer information advice and support for Supporters Trusts in the UK. Jackie Forster from SD has been a fantastic source of advice and support and our thanks go to her. Our Guest that evening was Richard Lillicrap.
Call to Arms is the Cardiff Blues Supporters Trust and their chairman Phil Thomas was with us.
The evening started with an apology for the change of chairman for the evening, As Stephen Jones was unavailable,
Hence Menna Boyns took up the role for the evening, Thanks Menna. Although we had no representative from the club at hand, we did
have a letter of support from out new coach - Phil Davies, Which Menna then read out.
Up next was Richard, who informed us of what is a supporters trust. He also then went on to tell us about existing
football suporters trust and what they have achieved.
Phil, then spoke about what C2A had achieved in the past year since being launched. They were the 3rd Rugby supporters trust set-up.
We then had a short poiwerpoint presentation given by Alun Roderick which showed us where we were today, what we had done to get here, what we needed tonight and what we needed to do next.
Over 100 people attended the evening and we received a unanimous vote in favour of the mandate.
A questions and answers session was the last thing covered that evening, with answers being given by ourselfs and our two guest speakers.
